Grow Your Business With These Simple Email Marketing Tips

By Gianna Girellini

A big part of running a successful company is learning to get the word out about your business. To do that, you need a strong marketing campaign; one of the best ways to market your company is to use email marketing. Email marketing can be a smart way to reach your target market, and here are some great tips to have success.

If you wish to start email marketing, make sure you have the permission of your recipients to send them messages. If not, you will be looking at many spam complaints and loss of customers. Try following up an email to your customers with a notice that tells them not to procrastinate. Insert a suggestion that tells them to purchase now onto the reply. The ending could tell them not to miss this incredible opportunity by waiting. Instead, they should act now to reap the full benefits.

Slowly build your contact list. Start with those who have already appreciated what you offer and then move on to areas where you can engage your prospects. It can take a while to pick whom should be receiving your emails, but it'll be worth it in the end to build a reliable contact list.

Treat each reader like a relationship. Ask in the first email for permission to send more. In the second email, tell them what discounts, products and services they can expect in future emails. In the third email and after, follow through with the content you promised to provide them with.

Be sure to be consistent and steadfast with each strategy. Persistence is a critical part of any email marketing strategy, but misplaced persistence can be quite damaging; so, make sure to understand the difference between good and bad persistence. Pushing customers who aren't interested to read your content will never work.

Be especially careful when crafting your first three emails to new customers. A new customer should get an introductory email inviting them to join your marketing list. Once they accept your invitation, the next email should tell them about discounts or special offers they can expect to get now that they've signed up. The third email should contain their first newsletter and their special offer.

To improve your email reading rates, offer subscribers the option of seeing your newsletters in either plain text or HTML. Too many companies send their emails out in only one format, discouraging their less tech-savvy readers or alternately disappointing readers that expect a more dynamic presentation. Offering every newsletter in both formats makes it more accessible.

You should not use images to convey your most important information. Most email clients today, especially web-based ones, will not properly display these images. This can make your messages ugly or even unreadable if they are too reliant on images. You should always use text for your important information and use alt tags to describe your images.

As you are now aware, it is very important that the content in your email marketing message be on point. If the message is unclear, you will end up with frustrated recipients who will not want to open your emails in the future. Apply the tips from this article so you can be sure you are sending out a proper email marketing communication.
