Electrical Infrared Inspection Can Help Keep Your Home Or Business Safe From Fires

Faulty electrical wiring is to blame for a large number of fires in both residential and commercial properties each year. Many of these tragedies can be prevented by a simple electrical infrared inspection which easily identifies the start of problems before they become dangerous. This procedure does not take long and can be very effective at protecting lives and properties.

Infrared detection is designed to illuminate areas within an electrical system that are giving off more heat than normal. Any components which do not check out normal will be further evaluated by the technician conducting the inspection. Finding these faults early can prevent damage from spreading to other neighboring components as well.

IR thermography is primarily used for the purpose of electrical inspections. Wires are subject to deterioration as soon as they are installed due to the continuous flow of energy they must conduct and this aging can eventually lead to widespread problems which jeopardize safety in the home or production in many industries. Regular check-ups of this sort will ensure the building is in good shape in terms of its electrical wiring.

It is easy and non-invasive for a technician to carry out this evaluation. By scanning the area, the infrared equipment will clearly illuminate any potentially hazardous faults which could pose a danger if not promptly fixed. There are different types of faults such as poorly ventilated equipment, damaged insulation, incorrect temperatures, equipment overload, corrosion, and loose connections. If these issues are repaired in a timely manner they will ultimately cost much less and also be safer for those in the building.

A malfunctioning electrical component typically generates an abnormal amount of heat, which speeds up its eventual failure. This may be due to aging, oxidation, an improper installation, or poor connections. These trouble areas stand out from the rest and will be listed on the survey so the building owner knows what must be fixed.

For the best results, the evaluation should be performed when the system is running on its full load of current, as to generate the highest temperature possible and therefore yield an accurate survey. A skilled technician will be able to determine the extent of the problems. Usually components checked will include transformers, circuit breakers, fuses, distribution boards, and control panels amongst others.

These preventative inspections only offer advantages to the property owner. Damage at any stage will be revealed, as will a faulty installation, and it will become apparent if any component is not functioning as it was intended to. Sometimes the building checks out without a fault, which in itself can surely bring peace of mind to homeowners and encourage business to carry on with their plans for production.

The fact that an electrical infrared inspection can potentially save a building from burning down, makes it a worthy investment. It is much less costly and time-consuming to fix issues while they are still relatively minor than waiting for them to get worse and become hazardous. Annual inspection of electric components will ensure their continued safe operation.
