Buying Or Even Making Cheap Stylus Pens

By Christi Larsen

The phenomenon of smart gadgets is not going away any time soon, but the cheap stylus pens which make them work better are often lost. This pen can cost well over a hundred dollars, and losing it is no mere inconvenience. Teenagers can be the worst about losing things, or having them confiscated by their teachers, but there is an alternative to breaking the bank.

There are online merchants which have these tools available at warehouse prices. This can certainly make it easier for a household on a budget to replace the pen when it gets lost, stolen, or simply misplaced. For anyone who is particularly creative, they can actually make one out of a regular pen.

The fact is one can take a cheap pen, a little bit of wire, and some conductive foam and make their own. The conductive foam is what microchips and other small electronic components are embedded in. This foam can be found in old computers, cell phones, electronic recorders, and any other electronic devices which have been discarded into a junk drawer.

To create a more attractive tool for their gadget, one could use a fancier metal pen. Having metal allows the entire length of it to become the conductor, thus one will not need the small-gauge wire. This is a great project for a science class, not to mention being a useful skill for anyone obsessed with their expensive electronic gadgets.

The word comes from the Latin word Stilus, and it originally referred to a tool of metal, bone, or stone. This stilus was used to incise letters onto stone tablets, which were the form of paper utilized in that time period. The word was adopted once it was discovered that an extra tool was required to make touch screens easier to utilize, but they wanted to differentiate the tool from a regular pen.

There is no doubt that not all of these tools are made the same, just as a regular pen can come in fine point or wide point. Artists know this better than anyone, as they are the true connoisseurs of the tool. Artists often prefer a longer style, often made of bamboo, which allows them the lighter touch often utilized by someone who is doing sketches.

One style that everyone is familiar with is that which you find at the pharmacy or check out counter at the grocery store. Generally it only has to be used in credit card transactions. These are so bad that no signature made on that screen ever looks like the real signature of the person, and how the computer accepts it is truly a mystery.

The ones found at the grocery must be the worst of the cheap stylus pens, although there is certainly a range in the marketplace. For anyone who is looking for a good fine point, do some research and find out what the artists are using. For those with an eye toward creating one from scratch, make a video and share it with the world.
