Why A Fixed Blade Camping Knife Is The Better Choice

By Stephen Martin

Traveling and participating in outdoor activities that involve nature and the wild is fun and quite the challenge. Unlike going on vacation in a resort, convenience is not a matter of commercial accommodation but of personal preparation. There are many tools needed including tents, sleeping bags and other gear that help you cook, and do other tasks that you may need for the trip.

Knives are a staple to these trips since you may need to use them for cutting ropes, or slicing meat for cooking. There has always been an argument for whether the best ones to bring for camping out are the folding or fixed ones. For those that love to go hiking and other outdoor activities, this may be an important matter. Fixed blade camping knife choices are vital to make sure that any job can be done properly.

There is a cool factor when it comes to folder knives, but when you are in the outdoors, what matters more is use and efficiency. While getting the weapon concealed is a disadvantage for fixed blades, you can guarantee that using it would be most efficient when compared to other options. The force you can exert on the tool does not affect its possibility of being damaged.

If you need to dig a hole on the ground, you can be sure that it can accomplish the job easily. There is not a folder that will able to do this without you worrying that debris may get into the screws and other nooks and crannies. Cleaning and maintenance is also very easy for fixed blades. It simply is just washing it.

You also have the option of choosing whatever length you want for the sharp area. Folders are not able to accommodate very large blades since that would make the whole structure weaker. The longer the blade for folders, the more force it is going to give on the screw area of the handle. This makes fixed knives the default choice when choosing a knife for outdoor adventuring.

The best usefulness of the folding blades is maximized in the city, where knives are needed but have to look less threatening. Carrying a full blade around looks very violent and may scare people away and cause unnecessary panic. Still, you cannot deny that if the situation calls it, the tool can be of good use in many situations.

There are just some tasks that you would hesitate doing with a knife that rotates and has hinges. With a sturdy fixed blade, prying, twisting and pulling things are easier done. There is no need to worry about breaking the tool or getting skin locked and pinched on the hinges accidentally.

Messy jobs like uprooting plants and other gardening tasks maybe possible with a folder but the maintenance would be hellish. The blade may dull a little but with the sturdier option, you are guaranteed that making the blade sharp again would be simpler. There are options of opting for ones with bigger or smaller blades. Rest assured the job can still be done but success vary on the strength used.

Whether you are the type that likes to go camping or not, having one of these babies is essential survival. Just as a precaution keep one in a survival kit in case some freak accident happens. The tool is proven a necessity in any emergency situations. Since the equipment is dangerous make sure to keep it out of reach from children and people unfit to use it.
